ARTIST STATEMENT
My muse awakens in modeling itself. It is like free writing, but with clay. I enter the process without a predetermined destination and let the language of ceramics guide me. If the expression of a piece does not match my vision, I have no hesitation in removing parts until it has the necessary strength and balance.
Inspiration often strikes at unexpected moments, and I can hardly contain my excitement to see what curious idea will manifest next.
Each piece deserves a unique finish, and I relish the opportunity to push creative boundaries. The wilder and more imaginative, the better.
With atelier scralan, I want to create pieces that have never been seen before.
As an artist, one day you hope to make a mark on the world.
My name is Angeliek Delanghe, born and raised in the picturesque town of Soest, Germany. As a child, I was always fascinated by art and creativity.
In 2005 I started my studies in visual arts at Sint-Lucas Ghent. I knew this was the right path for me and soon I discovered my true vocation in three-dimensional design, especially with glass and ceramics.
During my years at Sint-Lucas, I had the privilege of learning from and collaborating with talented artists and teachers. My passion for ceramics grew exponentially and I began experimenting with new techniques and forms which later resulted in a major award and 1st prize from the foreign jury.
After graduation, I got the opportunity to work at Atelier Vierkant, a renowned ceramics studio in Belgium. Here I was able to refine my skills and take my passion for ceramics to new heights together with the talented team at Atelier Square.
“I inherited the artistic from my parents, but definitely from my very dear grandfather. He was a carpenter and could really make anything. I looked up to him tremendously.”
Graduated with pride and won first prize from the foreign jury.
My studio began in Ramskapelle, in my father's workshop. My kiln had been there for a few years. I loved spending time there with my father; he always lit the stove and we both worked on our hobbies.
My studio in Ramskapelle was getting too small. Much too small. Soon we will rent a large studio in Oudenburg, where I can indulge myself completely. Sculpting has become an addiction. The thrill of opening my kiln every time, because it runs twice a week. Each firing also includes a glaze test. It is wonderful to create new glazes that I later apply to my works. The ceramic pots are no higher than 70 cm, which is the maximum that fits in my kiln. Their thin construction makes them very manageable. There is no heavy labor involved, so you can pick one up in no time 🙂
